This new fron\u00adtend-heavy design for the Mozil\u00adla Devel\u00adop\u00ader Net\u00adwork sure is dis\u00adori\u00adent\u00ading until you learn to ignore most of the front page and realise all the use\u00adful con\u00adtent is halfway down, beneath the fold. Because it\u2019s impor\u00adtant that you know it\u2019s the last week to vote for your favorite Fire\u00adfox Home iPhone Skin (!), an entire side\u00adbar, almost a third of the screen wide, is ded\u00adi\u00adcat\u00aded to Twit\u00adter posts. Sig\u00adnif\u00adi\u00adcant screen space is set aside for an enor\u00admous swip\u00ading advert for projects you already know about (being a web devel\u00adop\u00ader and all) or that would be bet\u00adter deliv\u00adered near a link to their rel\u00ade\u00advant category.<\/p>\n

A huge red bar dom\u00adi\u00adnates the front page like an error box that won\u2019t go away, and sad\u00adly con\u00adtains only one use\u00adful link (\u201cHere\u2019s how to get start\u00aded\u201d). Even that could be filed away near the login\/register pan\u00adel at the top right, which also real\u00adly<\/em><\/strong> needs some lov\u00ading. This red bar turns into a dif\u00adfer\u00adent bar when you nav\u00adi\u00adgate away from the front page, but it still does\u00adn\u2019t con\u00adtain any\u00adthing of mer\u00adit (twit\u00adter, feed and forum links should not be in a ded\u00adi\u00adcat\u00aded hor\u00adi\u00adzon\u00adtal bar that results in the actu\u00adal page con\u00adtent being shoved down by 85px).<\/p>\n

I ini\u00adtial\u00adly dis\u00adre\u00adgard\u00aded the entire \u2018WEB MOBILE ADD-ONS APPLICATIONS\u2019 strip across the top since it just looked like an ugly way to state what you\u2019d find on the site. Only by acci\u00addent (notic\u00ading the mouse cur\u00adsor change as I moved near\u00adby) did I dis\u00adcov\u00ader they\u2019re actu\u00adal\u00adly links; with\u00adout the tra\u00addi\u00adtion\u00adal under\u00adline (or but\u00adton\/tab-styling) chunks of ran\u00addom\u00adly-coloured cap\u00adi\u00adtalised text do not sig\u00adni\u00adfy a link.<\/p>\n

Click\u00ading the large \u2018WEB\u2019 link at the top takes you to a page with only four \u2018pop\u00adu\u00adlar\u2019 web doc\u00adu\u00admen\u00adta\u00adtion cat\u00ade\u00adgories, so find\u00ading stuff on, say, the DOM requires click\u00ading the small, light blue \u2018All web devel\u00adop\u00adment doc\u00adu\u00admen\u00adta\u00adtion\u2019 link under\u00adneath. At this point you actu\u00adal\u00adly tran\u00adsi\u00adtion from the shell of the new design to the sane, rea\u00adson\u00adably sim\u00adple old MDN pages.<\/p>\n

I filed a bunch of \u201cI sug\u00adgest\u201d requests through a sup\u00adport sys\u00adtem that\u2019s also quite need\u00adless\u00adly con\u00adfus\u00ading and oper\u00adates on \u2018points\u2019 as if it\u2019s some kind of demo\u00adc\u00adra\u00adt\u00adic social net\u00adwork; here\u2019s hop\u00ading some\u00adthing comes of it.
